10-day weather forecast 04/08/15

The two meteorologists, Bill Parker and Mario Valverde, gave us a lively, interesting, and informative training session last night here in San Augustine.  I am only sorry more did not attend the session. We had 3 attendees from Nacogdoches County and 2 from Sabine County in the 15 in attendance.  The guys did what I thought was a great job of answering all our questions and updating us on the changes to Storm Spotting since our April 2013 Session.

Weather wise....Today will be another of those mid 80 degree days. Thursday will see the beginnings of slightly cooler temperatures in the upper 70's and by mid afternoon we will begin to see the 50 to 90% chances for T-storms and rain thru the next 10 days and not much sunshine during the period.  Our winds will be mostly from the South at 15 to 20 MPH and loaded with lots of Gulf moisture just waiting for the triggers to start the events.  The current view for the 10 day interval could see as much as 3 inches of rain.

Looking at the weather map, I see the Low pressure front draped across the US from Colorado to Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. There are several dry lines moving West to East that will be the catalyst for all the activity in our area.  Already severe storms with hail, high winds, and lots of lightning are kicking off along the front in Kansas and Missouri in what from there to the North is the SEVERE WEATHER FORECAST AREAS.

The NWS has just issued a high wind advisory from Tyler and Longview Northward in anticipation of winds in excess or 30-35 MPH.

This cold front could sag further South into Texas and with the moisture, warm summer like temps, and the triggering dry lines, East Texas could also see some of the forecast T-storms in our area to become Severe in nature.
