Shelby County Bloomin’ on the Square to feature Andrew King, “Landscaping for birds & butterflies” Saturday

Andrew King of King’s Nursery will be the featured speaker at the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual “Shelby County Bloomin’ on the Square” presented by Hughes Florist.

 

Andrew King will give a presentation at 10:00 a.m. on “Landscaping for Birds and Butterflies”.   King is a fourth generation nurseryman who co-manages King’s Nursery with his mother, Cheryl King, grandmother, Margaret Freeman and brother, Aaron.  Mr. King graduated from SFASU with a B.S. in Horticulture in 2004 and in 2010 received a M.S. in Horticulture from Texas A&M.

 

The Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center will host the annual “Butterfly Release” at 11:00 a.m. and the “What did the Fox Say?” Tea Party will start at 11:30 a.m. with multiple seatings. The Hope Clinic will be conducting a coloring contest for children in four age groups, 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.  First Place winners in each age group wins a $20 Wal-Mart gift certificate and 2nd Place wins a $10 Wal-Mart gift certificate.

 

Vendors at the event include, db Metal Art, Mark Carpenter of The Lily Farm will share expert advice for the care of day lilies, as well have a selection for purchase, Texas Forest Service will have information on having a “Fire Wise Landscape”, The Little Fox Marketplace, Nacogdoches Pottery, and Backwoods Buggies. Sassy Red’s Bakery will have cupcakes galore, and Daisy Treats is dishing up homemade ice cream.

 

Attendees are welcome to come to the square and shop, visit and enjoy breakfast burritos from Sombreros. Event sponsors include Farmers State Bank, Shelby Savings Bank and Sanford & Sons Lawn Service.
