REVISED WITH CORRECTION: Tenaha child loses life in horse-riding accident

A horse riding accident Friday afternoon has taken the life of a Tenaha youngster.

 

Eight-year old Cole Howard DePriest was riding in Clarksville when the incident occurred.

 

According to information on his obituary from Watson & Sons Funeral Home, Cole DePriest had a passion for horses and rodeo, and was a very active sports player.

 

Cole’s father, David DePriest is head baseball coach at Tenaha High School, and mother, Colette Cross DePriest teaches in the Carthage ISD.

 

Cole was a first-grader at Carthage Primary School.

 

Funeral service for Cole DePriest will be at 4 p.m. this afternoon at First Baptist Church in Tenaha.

 

In lieu of flowers the Cole DePriest Scholarship has been set up through GoFundMe. On information from the online account it says the “Cole-Man” Scholarship Foundation has been founded to support hard working individuals that portray selfless service, outgoing personalities just like those of Cole’s and also those who have the drive and motivation to further their education in remembrance of our hero, Cole-Man.

 

Tenaha schools will release at 2:30 p.m. today
