San Augustine ISD in search for new athletic director/head football coach

The San Augustine ISD is in the middle of a search process for a new athletic director and head football coach after Donald Hubbard submitted his resignation after four years.

San Augustine ISD Superintendent Virginia Liepman tells Center Broadcasting a nine-member selection committee has started the screening process of some 60 applicants to find an individual that would be a good fit for the San Augustine athletic program.

She says that committee is made up of four (4) community leaders and five (5) school district individuals that have comprised some traits and qualifications they'd like to see in the position.

Ms. Liepman says the plan is to find a manageable number of candidates and then begin the interview process. She adds the district would like to have a new AD/head football coach for the San Augustine ISD within the next month.

The job posting remains on the San Augustine ISD website despite having a deadline of March 31.

Ms. Liepman says Coach Hubbard's resignation letter stated he would be leaving the San Augustine ISD this month.

We understand Hubbard had a year left on his current contract, but was not given a renewal by the San Augustine ISD Board of Trustees.

Hubbard came to San Augustine in 2011 and inherited a football program that had 4 losing seasons in five years. He guided SA to the stated playoff all four years, and saw a total renovation of the football stadium, including turf, high school and junior high field house and weight room.
