Local Sports Round up 04/01/15; Rider Baseball beats Tatum, Dist. 19-4A Golf Tourney today

Baseball Tuesday's Results:

 

The Center Roughriders get an 8-2 win at Tatum last night as Jacob Mitchell picks up the victory. The Riders improve to 4-1. The Rider JV also comes away with an 18-1 win. The Riders will play in Henderson Thursday. Note the change from Friday. Game times are 4:30 JV and 7 p.m. Varsity.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons and Joaquin Rams are tied at 3-3 in Dist. 23-2A play as Shelbyville takes a 6-4 win over Joaquin.

 

Tenaha goes to 1-5 in district as Mt. Enterprise grabs a 15-5 win. It’s ME’s first win (1-5).

Central Heights defeats the Garrison Bulldogs, 10-2. The state-ranked Blue Devils are 6-0 in Dist. 22-3A, while Garrison is 3-3.

Softball Tuesday's Results:

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams fall a game out of first place in Dist. 23-2A, as Cushing wins, 10-4. Cushing is 7-1, while Joaquin is now 6-2. Alto was tied for first going into play Tuesday.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons get back on track with a 23-1 win over Burkeville Tuesday. Shelbyville is 6-2 in district.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears get their first district win, 23-17 over Douglass. Timpson turns a double-play to end the game and Kaylie Bush gets a home run. Timpson is 1-6 and plays ??? in a double-header Thursday.

 

The Center Lady Riders (0-3) had a bye yesterday and will be home to play Rusk starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Dist. 19-4A tournament will be played in Longview today.

 

Track & Field:

 

The Roughrider Relays will be held at Roughrider Stadium starting at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Soccer:

 

The Center Roughrider Soccer team will play Hardin-Jefferson at 3 p.m. Thursday at Allen Academy in Bryan in the Class 4A area championship round. The winner of Thursday's game will be the LaVega-Little Cypress-Mauriceville winner in the region quarterfinals.

 

Joaquin Athletic Boosters:

 

The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.

 

The 37th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Anglers’ Take a Kid Fishing Bream Tournament will be held on Toledo Bend at Huxley Bay Marina on Saturday, May 9. We invite all children ages 3 to 15 years old to register for the free tournament. Entry forms can be picked up at the Center Broadcasting studios at 307 San Augustine Street in Center, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery & Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center.   Participants must be preregistered no later than May 1st.  Trophies will be awarded to each group and prizes will be available for each participant.  Fishing begins at 6am, and all participants must be in the weigh-in line no later than 12:30pm.
