Tenaha financial statements approved, city secretary announces retirement

It appears the Tenaha City Council has received a back-log of financial statements and accepted and balanced the budget during their meeting Monday night.

Mayor Orinthia Johnson reportedly took responsibility for the delay in getting three-months of financials out to the council more timely.

Forming an economic development advisory committee was also discussed, and utility supervisor Stacy Cranford presented a proposal for an increase in water and sewer rates that indicated Tenaha's rates for service were below those of neighboring cities and should be increased. Tenaha Council may act on raising utility rates at their next meeting.

Finally, city secretary Doyce Bailey announced her retirement effective April 30. Ms. Bailey said she'll be leaving the position after 33 years, and working under the supervision of just two mayors.

She told us working for the citizens of Tenaha has been an interesting and fun time, and added she looks forward to being at home with her husband Eddie and other family.

The City of Tenaha is accepting applications for city secretary until April 20. A job packet can be obtained at Tenaha City Office.
