2015 SAND BASS TOURNAMENT PLANS ANNOUNCED

The 8th Annual SAND BASS TOURNAMENT will be held on March 14, 2015, on the River Front in Logansport, Louisiana.

A favorite event with outdoorsmen from Texas and Louisiana, the team-fishing and big-bass competitions have a wide draw.  Logansport, recognized as the San Bass Capital of the World, is located on the Texas-Louisiana border, at the headwaters of Toledo-Bend Lake.

First prize is $5,000; second is $2,000; and third is $1,500.  Prizes for fourth through tenth place range from $1000 to $150.  The prize for the “Big Bass” is a pool, dependent on the number of registered teams, but can easily exceed $2,500.

Fisherman can obtain registration forms by writing to Bass Tournament, POB 320, Logansport, La. 71049; on-line at the Face Book Group SAND BASS TOURNAMENT or at the Chamber of Commerce page on the Town of Logansport Web Site at http://www.townoflogansport.com.

Forms are also available at selected businesses in Logansport, Joaquin, Center, Carthage, Mansfield, Many, Coushatta, Shreveport, Bossier City, Houston, Dallas, and Ft. Worth (see list on Face Book Group).  Participants are urged to register early, since it may be necessary to restrict competition to 200 teams.

Although hosted by the Logansport Chamber of Commerce, sportsmen from Texas and Louisiana work together to create a special camaraderie.  The Shelby County Bass Anglers, headed by Mr. Sammy Arnold, promote the event in Texas, and manage the weigh-in.

The annual pre-tournament FISH FRY, this year featuring a Friday the Thirteenth theme, will precede the Saturday competition.  Open to the public, the gala dinner is held in a tent on the bluff overlooking the river, and features an auction and door prizes.

Information on the Fish Fry can be obtained by calling Sissy Morris at 318-697-5489.  Tickets for the fish fry, along with Tournament shirts and mementoes are available at Logansport Businesses.

The BASS TROUNAMENT celebrates the beauty and bounty of the upper reaches of Toledo Bend Lake, and attracts not only fishermen, but lots of folks who enjoy the outdoors.  The fishing competition is a great excuse for residents and regional guests to celebrate spring with a fun day on the Sabine River.

This year, for the first time, the event will include live music and vendors.  Vendors will not be charged, but are asked to register in advance with Debbie Evans at 318-426-9336.  Spaces will be allocated on a first-come basis, and those who fail to register in advance cannot be guaranteed space.

Winners from the 2014 Tournament were Stanley Creech and Myron Prince.  The combined weight for their five largest fish was12.93 lbs., netting this winning team $5,000.  As one of the sponsors observed, that’s $387 a pound for a great morning of spring fishing.

Mr. John Russell, Vice President of Community Bank of Louisiana and President of the Logansport Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Sand Bass Tournament, met with the Tournament Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 27, to finalize preliminary plans.

Rules for the tournament, essentially identical to those of 2014, were approved, and committees were set up.

Tournament Liaisons for several communities were announced, including Sammy Arnold for Center; Wendy Gurley for Carthage; and Robbie Heard for DeSoto Parish.

The Committee will meet again on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Community Bank of Logansport at 5:00 p.m.  All those interested in working on the tournament are invited to attend.
