In Sports,
High School Basketball Tonight:
The Center Roughriders return to Dist. 19-4A action on the road at 1-5 Rusk. The Riders are in second place at 4-1, a game back of first-place Tatum. Center goes to Tatum Friday. In the other district game tonight, 3-3 Carthage goes to Tatum.
The Center Lady Riders are winless and conclude their season at Rusk this evening.
In Dist. 22-2A, the first-place Shelbyville Dragons (6-1) go to Martinsville (4-3), Joaquin (1-6) at second-place Timpson (5-2) and Beckville (1-6) at (4-3) Tenaha to play the Tigers. Martinsville and Tenaha are tied for third with three games left in the regular season.
All eyes are on tonight's girls' games in Martinsville (6-3) and Timpson (0-9), as the Shelbyville Lady Dragons and Joaquin Lady Rams are tied at 5-4, with third-place, and possibly even second-place up in the air. A Joaquin win, plus a Shelbyville loss would have the top-three teams Tenaha, Martinsville and Joaquin. A Joaquin win and a Shelbyville win, means Joaquin, Martinsville and Shelbyville would be tied for second. Not sure about a tiebreaker in that case.
In Dist. 23-2A, The San Augustine Wolves and West Sabine are tied for first at 6-1. Zavalla (0-6) goes to SA, with West Sabine at Brookeland (4-3). Pineywoods Academy goes to Broaddus (3-4).
In the Dist. 23-2A race, the San Augustine Lady Wolves are playoff bound as they’re in second place.
The Dist. 22-3A schedule has first-place Newton (10-1) at Hemphill (1-9), Woden (6-4) at (9-2) Woodville, Central (5-6) at (8-3) Central Heights, and Corrigan (2-8) at (1-9) Garrison.
