High School Basketball Friday:
The Center Roughriders were idle and will be back in action tomorrow night at Rusk. Center remains alone in second place in Dist. 19-4A at 4-1. Meanwhile Friday, Tatum defeated Henderson 72-44 and Carthage over Rusk, 61-41. Tatum is 5-0, Henderson is 3-3, and Rusk and Henderson are 1-5.
The Lady Riders will close out their season at Rusk Tuesday.
In Dist. 22-2A, the Shelbyville Dragon remain in first with a 96-41 win over the Joaquin Rams, the Timpson Bears take a 60-37 victory over Beckville and for the second time this season, the Martinsville Pirates beat the Tenaha Tigers, 40-30. Shelbyville is 6-1, Timpson is alone in second at 5-2, and now Martinsville and Tenaha are tied for third at 4-3. Joaquin and Beckville are 1-6.
The Tenaha Lady Tigers are the outright Dist. 22-2A champs with a 46-30 win over the Martinsville Lady Pirates. Tenaha is 9-0. Martinsville remains in second at 6-3. The Joaquin Lady Rams are still clawing and scratching to get into the playoff as they beat the Shelbyville Lady Dragons, 45-33, as Shelbyville and Joaquin are both 5-4 heading into Tuesday night’s final regular season game. Shelbyville plays Martinsville and Joaquin goes to Timpson.
In Dist. 23-2A, the front-runners both get wins Friday. The San Augustine Wolves take a 75-48 win over Pineywoods Academy, and West Sabine gets by the Broaddus, 55-49. Both are 6-1. Brookeland beat Zavalla, to remain in third at 4-3, a game ahead of Broaddus at 3-4.
In the Dist. 23-2A race, the San Augustine Lady Wolves are playoff bound as they’re in second place. They beat Pineywoods, 51-29.
The Dist. 22-3A boys’ race has Newton still alone in first with at 10-1, with a 58-55 win over Central Heights Friday. Central Heights is in third at 8-3. Woodville is in second at 9-2 with a 70-60 win over Corrigan (2-8), and Woden (6-4) beat Hemphill (1-9). Central (5-6) beat the Garrison Bulldogs (1-9), 54-43. Top four teams make the playoffs.

College Hoops:
The SFA Lumberjacks and Lady jacks get wins over Houston Baptist in Southland Conference play in Nacogdoches Saturday night. The men take a 95-59 win and the ladies take a 72-67 victory. The 9-0 Jacks play Northwestern State tonight in Natchitoches. The 8-2 Lady jacks will be in San Antonio to play Incarnate Word Thursday evening.
Power Lifting:
The Shelbyville Lady Dragon Power Lifting team won the Diboll meet last Thursday for their second team title in as many weeks. Best Lifter of the meet was Lady Dragon Savannah Talbert. Taking first place at the meet were Caitlyn Campbell, Hannah Hall, Kennedy Parker, Harlie Hagler, Katie Casey and Talbert. Second place was Brenna Jackson and Lindsey Holbrook; third place finish to Madison Taylor and Kamaryn Smith; fourth place, Paige Polley and Tristin Wilburn; fifth place, Kianna Watts and sixth place Devenne Smith. The Lady Dragons are coached by Gary Alford.
Soccer:
The Center Roughriders and Lady Riders will open district at Diboll Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m.
The Tenaha Tiger will be at Gladewater at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
Baseball:
Several high school baseball teams will hit the diamond in their first
scrimmage action today. The Center Roughriders go to Central Heights
starting with JV at 4 p.m., followed by Varsity at 6 p.m. The
Shelbyville Dragons have the Garrison Bulldogs in today at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, the Joaquin Rams go to Logansport in a 4:30 p.m. start. The
regular season begins Feb. 23.
Softball:
The Center Lady Riders have their final scrimmage today before the
start of the season. Center goes to Cushing for a 5 p.m. start. The
Joaquin Lady Rams go to Stanley in a 4 p.m. start.
Sign Ups:

There will be a coaches meeting for Center ASA girls softball tonight, February 9, at 6 pm at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Background checks will be done on all coaches. Questions, call Feather at 332-6050.
The San Augustine Lions Sporting Clay Shoot will be held Saturday, Feb. 21 at Fairway Farm, located five miles east of San Augustine on Hwy. 21. All proceeds benefit Texas Lions’ Camp, local charities and scholarships. The shoot will consist of four or five person teams. Individuals are welcome and everyone will be placed on a team. There will be one flight beginning at 10 a.m., registration starts at 8 a.m. Fee is $100 per shooter. Food, drinks and prizes will be provided. A special brass plated lever-action Henry rifle donated by T-Roy Broussard from the “Swamp People” TV show will be auctioned and another Henry rifle will be awarded to the “top shooter”.
