Filing reported to be slow for city, school board May 9 elections

We're a week into the month-long filing window for a spot on the ballot in the May 9 school board and city elections, and locally there hasn't been that much action from incumbents or from new office seekers.

 

The deadline for filing is Feb. 27.

 

In the Joaquin ISD, Thomas Harvey has been the lone filer, as positions held by Luke Garrett and Ronnie Belrose are expiring.

 

For the City of Joaquin, incumbent council members LeeVern Stotts Gilliam and Mike Atkinson have both returned the proper paperwork to run again. In addition, the position of mayor of Joaquin held by Mike Wood is also up. Mayor Wood has said he will not be seeking re-election. T

 

here have been no filings for the Tenaha ISD board, City of Tenaha Council, or Timpson ISD board and Timpson City Council.

 

In the Tenaha ISD, seats held by Bo Morris, Robert Barton and June Swint are up for election.

 

In the City of Tenaha, council members Larry Terry, Claudine Howard and Michael Baker's spots are expiring.

 

Timpson ISD trustees Tracy Hooper, Dannie Hunt and Beth Tipton are up.

 

The Timpson City Council seats of Kyle Allen, Janell Baker and George Grace are up this spring.

 

In the Shelbyville ISD board of trustees, incumbent Joe Tom Schillings has re-filed and challenger Chris Koltonski has also returned the paperwork seeking a position. Etola Jones' seat on the Shelbyville ISD is also expiring.
