Joaquin VFD responds to car fire at restaurant, pedestrian struck by pickup

Just after 7 p.m. last night the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire in front of the Lone Star Grill at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Hwy. 7.

According to Stephen Ewing, Joaquin Fire Dept. responded with three trucks and 10 firefighters.

He said units arrived to find a Kia Sophia fully engulfed in flames sitting six feet from the front door of the restaurant. A quick attack contained the fire to the car, with the only damage to the building being a section of the sign melted.

Also, while firefighters were at this scene, a pedestrian crossing U.S. 84 was struck by a pickup truck.

The unidentified victim was transported by ACE EMS to Nacogdoches Medical Center/Center Emergency Department with minor injuries.

The incident is under investigation by DPS State Trooper Jade Lavergne.
