Shelby County Sheriff's Department investigating fire inside jail cell last night

Shelby County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fire that broke out late last night in an isolation cell inside the jail.

 

Sheriff Willis Blackwell tells us this morning the incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. when an inmate somehow was able to set a mattress on fire using an unknown source.

 

The unidentified inmate was taken by ambulance to Center Emergency Department and received treatment. He was later returned to the jail.

 

The Center Fire Dept. responded as fire and smoke alarms went off.

 

Sheriff Blackwell says that inmate is facing a felony charge of Arson inside a Habitation. An investigation continues.
