Local Sports Round up 01/07/15; Riders get win at Chapel Hill, Lady Riders fall to Tenaha

High school basketball action last night:

 

The Center Roughriders take a 69-58 win on the road at Chapel Hill. The JV Riders get a 61-55 win, and the 9th grade falls, 48-51.

 

The Lady Riders had their final non-district game as they lose to the Tenaha Lady Tigers, 24-51, while the JV Lady Riders fall, 26-28.

 

Other non-district games:

 

Class 2A #20 ranked San Augustine Wolves over Kennard, 63-48; Hudson beats the Shelbyville Dragons, 62-46; no scores available, but the Joaquin Rams beat Central of Grand Cane and the Lady Rams sweep Groveton; Martinsville over Brookeland in overtime, 51-43; and the Martinsville Lady Pirates get a 49-43 win over Brookeland.

 

In Dist. 22-3A boys, Central Heights beats the Garrison Bulldogs, 66-35.

 

Friday's basketball action has most boys' teams wrapping up the non-district portion of their schedule, while the girls' are starting or continuing loop play.

 

The Center Roughriders will be at Huntington for three games starting with Freshmen at 5 p.m. Friday, while the Lady Riders open District. 19-4A play at Tatum beginning with JV at 5 p.m.

 

The San Augustine Wolves will be in Shelbyville to play the Dragons at 5 p.m.; the Lady Wolves open district at home against Brookeland, and the Shelbyville Lady Dragons will have their district opener as Beckville comes in. Other games Big Sandy will be at Timpson to play the Bears with the Varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the JV, the Tenaha Tigers go to White Oak, and the Lady Bears will be in Tenaha to play the Lady Tigers in the district opener for both teams. The Joaquin Rams go to Jefferson, and the Lady Rams start district by hosting Martinsville. The Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs travel to Newton and the Broaddus Lady Bulldogs are home against Zavalla in the district opener.

 

Soccer got underway Tuesday for Center High School. The Lady Riders tied Henderson, 2-2 in a game played at Roughrider Stadium, while the Riders lost in Jacksonville, 3-1.

 

The Center Lady Rider soccer team will be taking part in the Palestine Tournament Thursday thru Saturday, while the Rider soccer team heads to Chapel Hill in a 5 p.m. start Friday.

 

The Panola Fillies fell short to Jacksonville College, 70-72 last night. The Fillies are now 9-4 overall and 2-2 in conference, and will play again Saturday at Carthage High School against Trinity Valley Community College at 4PM.
 

Registration is underway for Shelbyville Little Dribblers. The program is divided into three age divisions. First and second grades, third and fourth grades, and fifth and sixth grades. Cost per child is $25, and $15 for siblings. Checks should be made payable to Shelbyville Little Dribblers. Sign up deadline is Jan. 19, with games starting Jan. 24. 2015 Center ASA Softball Sign-Ups will be held Friday, January 30 from 6-9 pm and Saturday, January 31 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Center Softball Fields. The cost is $80 for girls 5 years and up. Please bring your child’s birth certificate when you sign up. There will be sample uniforms for the girls to try on in order the get the correct size for the season.
