Congressman Louie Gohmert of Tyler announced Sunday that he will run against current House Speaker John Boehner for the top leadership spot in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

That challenge will play out publicly after congress makes its way back to Washington D.C. later this week. Gohmert told the hosts of "Fox & Friends" on the FOX News Channel Sunday morning that he made the decision after learning Representative Ted Yoho (R-FL) would seek to challenge Boehner as well.

Boehner is under fire from the more staunchly conservative representatives for what they perceive as left-leaning tactics and decisions.

Boehner has served as Speaker of the House since January of 2011.
