Bernie Tiede remains free on bond, pre-trial hearing set for March 3

Convicted murderer Bernie Tiede will remain free on bond, a judge ruled during a status hearing Friday in Carthage.

A pre-trial hearing was set for March 3, and a trial date of June 1, were also set during the status hearing.

Tiede was released from prison on bond in May and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted him relief in November in the form of a new punishment hearing.

During the hearing, the judge will consider any motions filed and victim impact information.

Marjorie Nugent’s family has filed papers asking the court to examine financial matters. Tiede is still facing a theft charge. That evidence charge will also be examined in March. It’s the first time that charge will be visited.

Tiede admitted to killing his friend and Carthage millionaire Marjorie Nugent in 1996. He was convicted of Nugent's death in 1999 and sentenced to life in prison.

He will remain out on his writ bond.

Judge DeVasto said Tiede was flawless on his supervision pertaining to the conditions of his bond.
