History to be made when Allison Harbison is sworn-in as first female Shelby County Judge this morning

History will be made this morning when Shelby County’s first female county judge takes the oath of office. Allison Harbison along with 11 other newly elected and re-elected officials will be sworn into office by 273rd District Judge Charles Mitchell in a 9 a.m. ceremony in the community room of the Shelby County Courthouse.

 

Also, receiving the oath of office will be new County Clerk-elect Jennifer Fountain, County Treasurer-elect Ann Blackwell, and three new Justices of the Peace, including Pct. 2 Marla Denby, Pct. 4 Jenny Hicks and Pct. 5 Mike Crouch.

 

Other Shelby County officials taking oaths to begin their new re-elected terms include District Clerk Lori Oliver, County Tax Assessor/Collector Debora Riley to her first full-term, and County Commissioners Pct. 2 Jimmy Lout and Pct. 4 Bradley Allen, and JPs Pct. 1 Maxie Eaves and Pct. 3 Margie Anderson. A reception will follow the ceremony.

 

Newly elected officials in San Augustine County will be sworn-in during a ceremony at 9 a.m. this morning in the San Augustine County Courtroom, as 11 county officials will receive the oath of office, including the new County Commissioner for Pct. 4, David McEachern.

 

Re-elected officials include County Judge Samye Johnson, who begins her second-term, District Clerk Jean Steptoe, County Clerk Margo Noble, County Treasurer Pam Smith, County Surveyor Charles Whitton, and County Commissioner Pct. 2 Edward Wilson. In addition to Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Sheila Ponder, Pct. 2 Ardis Mosby, Pct. 3 Billy Williams and Pct. 4 J.D. Miller.

 

Panola County swore-in their first female county judge Wednesday when LeeAnn Jones took office.
