Man swerves to miss deer, rolls pickup Thursday morning; travel trailer takes out fence & tree Thursday evening

An Alto area man, who’s originally from Shelby County, escaped serious injury early New Year’s morning when he swerved to miss several deer that ran out in front of him, went off the roadway and rolled his pickup truck just before 1:30 a.m.

According to Stephen Ewing, the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Dept. was dispatched to the accident, one mile south of U.S. 84, where they arrived to find a Ford F-150 laying on its passenger side, wedged in a small thicket of cedar trees, with the driver still in the driver’s seat.

Bradley Latham was removed from the vehicle as firefighters used the Jaws of Life and Ace EMS personnel assisted.

Latham told Center Broadcasting Thursday four deer ran out in front of him; he swerved to miss them and went off the road. He added he called 9-1-1 for help.

Latham was transported to Center Emergency Department with non-life threatening injuries.

Speed and possibly the wet roadway may have combined to play a part when a truck towing a travel trailer lost control and left the roadway on U.S. Hwy. 59 south of Timpson at the Attoyac River around 8:20 p.m. Thursday night.

Timpson Police report the man, who was from Humble says the trailer began to fish-tail going down a hill, went off the road, through a fence and struck a tree.

The driver was uninjured.
