Former DeSoto Parish School Board Superintendent Lee pleads guilty to theft

Former DeSoto Parish School Superintendent Walter Lee pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in exchange for resigning from his elected post as member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and making restitution in connection with grand jury indictments accusing him of double-dipping.

The plea to a single misdemeanor count was before DeSoto District Judge Charles B. Adams.

The long-time educator was indicted by a DeSoto Parish grand jury in January on felony theft, malfeasance and public contract fraud charges.

Another grand jury indicted him in August on four misdemeanor theft counts.

The 80-year old Lee was improperly paid for travel and lodging reimbursements received while he was the DeSoto Parish schools superintendent.

Other charges could be forthcoming against Lee.
