September unemployment rates drop for area counties

The Texas Workforce Commission released unemployment numbers for September last Friday and the rate continued to decrease in Shelby and San Augustine counties.

 

Shelby County’s unemployment was down to 5.3 percent, just slightly higher than the state’s rate of 5.2 percent. Shelby County’s unemployment decreased from 5.8 percent in August, and was down from 7 percent a year ago.

 

The county’s labor force is 12,660, with 665 looking for work.

 

San Augustine’s September rate is 8.4 percent, a slight drop from 8.5 in August and down from 10.2 in September last year.

 

Other neighboring counties are Sabine County’s rate is 10.3 percent, Nacogdoches at 5 percent, Angelina 4.9, and Panola County 3.7 percent.
