A high school football game official died after collapsing while working a junior varsity game in Pineland last Thursday night.

West Sabine ISD Superintendent Mike Pate the official collapsed while on the sidelines of a game against Hemphill.

The official was identified as 53-year old Carl Kegler, a Lufkin native. Paramedics at the scene say it appeared Kegler suffered a seizure.

It was also reported to be Kegler’s first assignment as an on-field official.
