Organizers of last weekend’s Joaquin Centennial Celebration say they were very pleased with the turnout and overall success of the event.

 

Winner of the $500 treasure hunt was James Barton of Joaquin, who located the certificate at the “Welcome to Texas” sign on Hwy. 84.

 

The committee also presented several recognitions to those in attendance:

 

Traveling the longest distance: Mary McManis of Clearwater, Fl.-900 miles. She’s the daughter of Brian Rushing, Jr. and Grace Hutto, both of Joaquin.

 

Oldest Joaquin Cheerleader: Joyce Childress Martin-Class of ’51.

 

Oldest Football Player: Red Owens-Class of ‘41

 

Longest Married Couple: Mr. & Mrs. Nolan Cogswell-68 years.

 

Oldest Elected Official: Barbara Pridgen
