Dorothy Canady

 

 

Dorothy Canady went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 23, 2019 in Houston, Texas. She was the first of eleven children born to Chester and Annie Janczak on May 24, 1935 in Wallis, Texas.  She spent the largest part of her life living in Joaquin, Texas and working in the craft department at Walmart in Center, Texas.


Dorothy was happiest at Thanksgiving when all the family went to her house for home cooked meals; especially her pancakes, chicken and dumplings and desserts like her peanut butter pie.  
God gifted her with many talents like sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, flower arranging, gardening, and canning her dill pickles.  In her later years she became an accomplished painter of landscapes and birds.  This January she had a show of her collections in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Many of her talents were passed down through the women of the family, along with some of her famous recipes.


Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church of Odem, Texas.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Annie Janczak, husbands, James Dockens and Bert Canady.  Her children preceding her are son, Derral Martin, daughter, Audrey Richard, and stepson Robert Dockens.  Also, her brothers, Thomas Janczak and Jimmy Janczak, and sisters, Donnie Lueckemeyer and LaVerne Rosniak.


Surviving Dorothy are her daughter, Julie Ashby, husband Craig of Odem Texas, stepsons, James Ray Dockens of Waxahachie, Texas, and Kenny Dockens, wife Karen of Wills Point, Texas. Her remaining siblings are, sisters, Gracie Streetman, Joy Woods, Carolyn Wright, and Judy Smith.  Brothers are Willard Janczak and Harold “Bob” Janczak.  She had 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. 


Pallbearers will be Darrell Alford, grandsons Ray Martin, Billy Martin, Cody Swan, and great-grandsons Trey Hunter and Kaleb Hunter.


Visitation will be held at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas on Saturday, September 28th at 1 pm.  Funeral service will be at 2 pm followed by interment at White Rock Cemetery.
