Hicks Mortuary is announcing funeral service for Mr. Ira (Sam) Edgar Jackson, age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 in the Nacogdoches Medical Center after a brief illness. 


He was born on May 12, 1934 in Center, TX to Clara Rushing and O.C. Jackson. He was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by both parents and two younger brothers, Weldon (Winkie) McKeggler and Leon Allen. 

 

Sam grew up in Center, TX and enlisted in the United States Army immediately after high school. While in the armed forces, he served during the Korean Conflict. After his military service ended, he returned home and worked in the construction industry with Ihlo Construction for several years. He then went to work at Center Independent School District as a custodian engineer where he later retired after 21 years of faithful service. 

 

Sam will be remembered for his love of the game of dominoes. He was a true competitor on the domino table.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at Abundant Love Ministries, 1426 Shelbyville Street with Pastor Marlin Cloudy, Sr. officiating.

 

Mr. Jackson is survived by:
Eight children, Fredrick Jackson (Cheryl) of Houston, TX; Iretta Jackson of Pearland, TX; Delbert Jackson of Center, TX; Elaine Jackson Turner (Albert) of San Antonio, TX; Eric Jackson of Center, TX; Scott Jackson (Shawn) of Dallas, TX; Angela Hebert (Christopher) of Baton Rouge, LA; Karla Jackson-Edwards of Sunnyvale, TX; one brother, Jerry Lathan (Joyce) of Center, TX; seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  

Visitation: 12:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, March 22 at Hicks Chapel (804 MLK Drive, Center, TX 75935)

 

An additional viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00am to 10:50am at Abundant Love Ministries.
