Funeral Services for Leslie Kay Lockey, age 54, of San Augustine, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, in the First United Methodist Church in San Augustine with Rev. Martin Doran officiating.  Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine.  Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wyman Roberts.

 

Leslie was born to Cornelia (Sparks) Lockey and the late Eddie Lockey, Sr., on December 28, 1964,  at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, and passed from this life on Monday, February 4, 2019, in San Augustine.  Spending the majority of her life in Troup, she attended Troup Independent School District where she served in the High School Band, and was a cheerleader for the J.V. and Varsity Football Teams.  Later moving to San Augustine where she was a 1983 graduate of San Augustine High School. 

 

She attended Abilene Christian University in Abilene, where she served in the Sigies - Sigma Theta Chi Sorority.  She later transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches to receive her Bachelor Degree in Education and while there, she proudly worked in the SFA alumni office. 

 

Afterwards, teaching in San Augustine I.S.D. in San Augustine, and the Lake Travis Elementary I.S.D. in Austin. While in Austin, she was a member of the Austin Junior League.  She was a very loved and respected educator having a way with kids and inspiring them individually with her method of teaching.

 

She dearly loved children and animals. She had a unique way with special needs children and loved gardening, having a green thumb like her beloved MiMi.  She was always greeting you with a beautiful smile, and had a wonderful sense of humor, and she dearly loved her beloved mother, sister, and brother, aunts and uncles, and other family members she held close to her.  She was of the Methodist faith, attending the First United Methodist Church in San Augustine.

 

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include, her beloved mother, Cornelia (Sparks) Lockey of San Augustine; her loving sister, Lisa (Lockey) Gates and her husband, Steve of Troup and her loving brother, Eddie Lowry Lockey II of San Augustine;  beloved aunts, Mary Ann Coney of Troup and Judy Sparks of Hemphill; her beloved cousins, Jennifer Morgan of Diboll; JoAnna Smith of Conroe; Alan Youngs of Denver, Colorado; Lance Youngs of Troup and Billy Wayne Slaughter of Tyler; her beloved step-brother, Michael Denby of Conroe; special friend, Kirk Nichols of San Augustine; and extended family members, Ann and Cliff Nichols of San Augustine, along with numerous cousins, other family, and friends. 

 

She is preceded in death by her loving father, Eddie Lockey, Sr; her beloved grandparents, Beeman and Gertha Sparks; Savanah Lockey Carnes, and uncle, John Richard Sparks.

Serving as pallbearers will include, Michael D. Steptoe, Lance Youngs, Paul Smith, Cody Nichols, Jared Nichols, Alan Youngs, Michael Denby and Steve Gates. Honorary pallbearers will include, Billy Wayne Slaughter, Robert Harris, Ford Cartwright, H. B. Sparks, Kyle Nichols, Mark Nichols, Reed Nichols, Christian Sparks, Kristy Hanifin Ross and Jason Wessner.
