Steven "Steve" Edward Hampton, 76, of Center, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2019 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on September 7, 1942 in Henderson, Texas to C.B. Hampton and Mable Inez Owens Hampton. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. 
A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel. 


Steve graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston, Texas and shortly after started building and inspecting radio and microwave towers. He moved back to Shelby County in 1967 where he received a position building cooling towers. While there, he met Ann Parker and the two were married on March 1, 1969. Steve had a desire to take a new route professionally and began driving trucks cross-country for Melton Truck Lines. In 1970, he transferred to Vernon Sawyer Truck Lines in Bastrop, Louisiana and four years later, in 1974 became the owner and operator. He successfully built his business into a strong and long-lasting company that he loved for 22 years. In 1996, Steve made the decision to uproot from his life-long career and move to Dallas to try his hand at something new. He went to work for R-COM Construction Company installing underground copper and fiber optic cables. He remained there until his retirement in 2011 when he moved back to Center. 


Steve is survived by his son, Ronnie Hampton and wife, Lisa of Farmerville, Louisiana; sister, Sharon Porter and husband, Michael of Center, Texas; granddaughters, Hailey Kenly and husband, Zach of West Monroe, Louisiana and Faithe Ann Brown and husband, David of  West Monroe, Louisiana; great-granddaughter, Madalyn Kenly of West Monroe, Louisiana; great-grandson, Brandon Kenly of West Monroe, Louisiana; niece, Monica Zimmerman and husband, Scott of Katy, Texas; Nephew, Justin Porter and wife, Carissa of Tenaha, Texas; great-nieces, Kalyn Gilchrist and Matt Strickland of St. Petersburg, Florida, Hadley, Harper and Hollynn Porter all of Tenaha, Texas; great-nephew, Jacob Zimmerman of Katy, Texas. 


He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Parker Hampton; parents, C.B. and Inez Hampton; and brother, Michael Lee Hampton.
