Unemployment Rate Continues to Decrease Across DET

The Texas Workforce Commission says April was a robusts month for Texas job growth, as the unemployment rate continues to fall. The April rate of 5.2 percent is the lowest in almost six years for the state.

 

Locally, the rate has also dropped area-wide, as Shelby County's rate has fallen one-percentage point in the past year, the same as the state's to 5.2 percent. In the past month there's been a 7-tenths of a percentage drop.

 

San Augustine County's April unemployment is at 7.5 percent, an over two-percentage decline in the past 12 months, and down from 8.4 just last month.

 

Sabine County's rate is 10.2 percent, as double-digit unemployment continues.

 

In other neighboring counties, Nacogdoches County's April rate is 4.6 percent; Angelina at 3.6 percent; and Panola County with a 3.6 percent unemployment rate.
