UPDATE: Chase, fatal shooting investigation continues, trooper released from hospital

We want to bring you up-to-date on the investigation of the chase and shooting incident that occurred in Lout Town on Hwy. 87 south of Shelbyville earlier this month.

Texas DPS Press Secretary Tom Vinger told Center Broadcasting Wednesday that Trooper Zachary Mills was released from Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview this week after receiving treatment for a broken leg in the May 4 incident.

Trooper Vinger said Texas Rangers and Highway Patrol continue to investigate the matter, which ended after shots were fired by DPS Trooper Dustin Ramos and Center Police Sgt. Duane Gordon, killing Jonathan Swindle of Shelbyville.

According to the preliminary investigation, Trooper Mills was out of his patrol car and was struck in the bar ditch as Swindle drove a stolen pickup truck off the roadway, around the spike strip.

We’ll continue to bring you updates from DPS as they become available.
