Drug Bust made on Tenaha Residence Monday, Two Arrested

Acting on a number of citizen complaints, a joint effort between the Center Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the arrest of two men at a Tenaha residence on drug related charges Monday morning.

Officers converged on 410 North Center Street and arrested 33-year old Tavoris Giles of Tenaha and 27-year old Leonard Blackshire of Timpson. Officers gained entry into the house and detected marijuana by odor and in sight. Giles reportedly tried to fight officers once they had probable cause to search, saying he reached for a gun several times before being detained.

Officials say they recovered over four grams of crack, as well as a quantity of hydro marijuana with a street value of $25 a gram, along with methadone pills. In addition, some $15,000 in cash was seized. Search of a vehicle at the property recovered an assault rifle.

Giles was charged with delivery of marijuana in a drug free zone; resisting arrest, search or transport; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; money laundering; two counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

Blackshire was booked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia; violate promise to appear; money laundering; delivery of marijuana in a drug free zone; and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

Departments assisting in the bust included the Tenaha City Marshal’s Office, Timpson Police Department, and Shelby County Constables Precincts 4 and 5.
