Local Sports Round up 5/7/14; CHS Athletic Banquet Thursday Evening

The Center High School Athletic Department will be hosting its annual Athletic Banquet at 6 Thursday evening in the Center High School Cafetorium. There will be a $100 cash drawing for all of the student athletes in attendance. Athletes will be admitted free of charge. Parents and guests will be charge $5 at the door. A meal will be provided. Roughrider boosters are invited to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments that the CHS Athletic Program has experienced this school year.

 

In the state baseball playoffs:

 

The Center Roughriders will meet Caldwell in a Class 3A best-of-3 area championship series starting at 7 Friday night in Madisonville. Game 2 will be at 2 Saturday in Pollock Central, and if needed, Game 3 will follow. The series winner has the winner of the Carthage/West series in the region quarter-finals next week. Center Broadcasting will have Rider playoff action on Q-100 KQBB as Don Wall handles the play-by-play.

 

The Joaquin Rams will play West Sabine in a Class 1A area round best-of-three series at Nacogdoches High School. Game 1 is 6 p.m. Thursday, with Game 2 at 6 p.m. Friday, and if needed, Game 3 at 6 Saturday. The series winner moves on to play the Douglass/Dallardsville Big Sandy winner in the region quarter-finals.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs will play Elysian Fields in a Class 2A area round series in Marshall at East Texas Baptist University. Game 1 is 7 p.m. Friday, with Game 2 at 3 p.m. Saturday, and if necessary, Game 3 will follow if necessary. The series winner has the winner of the White Oak/Groveton game in the quarter-final round.

 

Central Heights will take on Tatum in a Class 2A area round best of series starting at 7 Thursday in Henderson. The series winner meets the Kirbyville/New Diana winner in the region quarterfinal round.

 

In the softball playoffs:

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs have a Class 2A region quarterfinal best-of-three series against Woodville scheduled to start Friday at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin. Game one is 7 Friday, with Game 2 at 4 Saturday. If necessary, Game 3 would follow. The winner moves on to the region semi-final to play the winner of the Bruceville-Eddy/Salado winner.

 

Center will be the site for a Class 1A girls’ softball quarterfinal series when No. 2 state-ranked Beckville clashes with Cushing. Game 1 is to be played at noon Friday, with Game 2 to follow Game 1. If necessary, Game 3 is 3 p.m. Saturday.

Center High School is hosting a 5k run/walk to help aid human trafficking victims. The 5k will be held at Center High School this Saturday, May 10th, at 8 am. For registration or donation information visit www.centerisd.org or email Brad Lawrence at brad.lawrence@centerisd.org.

 

The 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler's Take a Kid Fishing Tournament is Saturday at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. The free tournament is for kids 3 to 15, and every child registered will receive a prize. We're asking for all tournament participants to be in the weigh-in line at Huxley Bay no later than 12:30 Saturday afternoon. Trophies will be awarded to the category winners in each age division. It's a great way to get Mother's Day weekend started. Everyone is invited to join us for the Take a Kid Fishing Tournament this Saturday at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend.
