Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety continue to investigate a trooper-involved fatal shooting Sunday night that occurred in the Lout Town area south of Shelbyville.
DPS is saying Trooper Zachary Mills attempted to stop a stolen 2003 Dodge pickup on Hwy. 87 using throw-down spikes around 6:30 p.m., when the unknown suspect left the roadway and struck the trooper. The unidentified suspect reportedly continued to drive into a nearby pasture, where he was fatally shot.
The preliminary investigation indicates that shots were fired from a DPS trooper and Center Police Department officer. Trooper Mills was life-flighted to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview where he reported to have a broken leg, and non life-threating injuries.
Center Police, along with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were assisting DPS in the stop. We’ll have more details of the incident as they become available.
