Oil Spill Reported at Lake Sam Rayburn Dam

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials are saying an oil spill occurred on Lake Sam Rayburn earlier this week when a piece of hydropower equipment overheated, and oil escaped inside the dam, and apparently spilled into the Angelina River and Lake Sam Rayburn. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have not released any information about the spill. It’s being reported by KJAS radio in Jasper that boats have been seen in the river and lake next to the dam this week with buoys deployed to contain the oil. The Corps of Engineer’s website is saying the turbines inside the dam have been shut off and the dam has not released any water since midnight Wednesday morning.
