Local Sports Round up 4/30/14; CBC to Broadcast Rider Playoff Games

The Center Roughrider are headed to the state baseball playoffs for the first time since 2005, and will play Rusk in a best-of-three bi-district series starting at 7 Friday night at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin. Game 2 will be at 2 Saturday, with a Game 3, to follow if needed. Center Broadcasting will have live coverage of the Riders throughout the state playoffs as Don Wall will be describing every pitch. We'll have the broadcast on Q-100 KQBB starting Friday night.

 

The Joaquin Rams will play Kennard in a Class 1A best-of-three bi-district series starting at 6 Thursday in Woden. Game 2 will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if needed, immediately after Game 2.

 

The Broaddus Bulldogs finished as the third seed from Dist. 23-1A and will play Dallardsville Big Sandy in a bi-district series. Meanwhile, West Sabine is the #1 seed, and Colmesneil was the #2 seed.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs will open the Class 2A playoffs with a home-and-home bi-district series against Hemphill. Garrison will host Hemphill at 7 p.m. on Thursday before traveling to face them at 7 p.m. on Friday. If a third game is needed, it will at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hemphill.

 

Softball Playoffs:

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons will play Zavalla in a Class 1A area round playoff game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Nacogdoches High School.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs will meet Sabine in a Class 2A best-of-3 area series at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. Game 1 is at 7 Thursday, with Game 2 at 6:00 Friday, and if needed, Game 3 at 2 Saturday afternoon.

 

Panola College has a new head women's basketball coach. Eddie Kite comes to Panola after 11 years at Connors State College, where his team's have averaged 24 wins a season. Coach Kite coached at the University of Houston, and was the coach at East Texas Baptist University in 1993 helping the Tigers to their first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance.

 

We're coming up on the registration deadline for the the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take a Kid Fishing Tournament, on Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. Sign-ups are underway for the free event, which is for kids 3 to 15 through this Friday. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by the close of business Friday.
