Early voting for the Saturday, May 10 General Election is underway, and will continue through Tuesday, May 6. City elections will be held in Timpson and Tenaha; and school trustee elections in Timpson, Tenaha, Joaquin and Shelbyville ISDs. Remember, you must have an acceptable form of ID in order to vote.

Here are the contested races and early voting locations and times.

 

In the City of Timpson, for mayor, incumbent Debra Smith is challenged by Councilman George Grace. Voting is taking place from 8-5 daily and from 7 to 7 on today, April 29 and May 6 at city hall.

 

In the City of Tenaha, the mayor’s race has current mayor Orinthia Johnson, and challenger Claudine Wilson Howard. For the one-year council term, incumbent Mark Hickson is challenged by Michael Baker. As for the two available two-year terms, incumbent Durand Steadman is challenged by Cliff Lloyd and Tommy Rinkle. City of Tenaha early voting is from 8 to 4 daily and from 6 to 6 on May 1 & May 2 at city hall.

 

All school trustee election will take place their district's administration building during the week, Monday thru Friday.

 

In the Timpson ISD there’s three vying for two trustee positions incumbents Joyce Wolfe and Stephen Burgay are challenged by Jim Rader. Voters in the Timpson ISD can cast ballots early from 8 to 4.

Tenaha ISD has two trustee positions up for election with three running. They are incumbent Tracy Collins, and challengers Michael Ogden and Vickie Jernigan. Early Voting in the Tenaha ISD is from 7:30 to 3:30.

 

The Joaquin ISD has three positions available with six running. They are incumbent John Paul Lawson and Rodney Harper, James Hamilton, Thomas Harvey, Chrisco Bragg and Pam Hearnsberger. Joaquin ISD voters can vote early from 8 to 4.

 

The Shelbyville ISD Board of Trustees has two positions open, with four running. They are incumbents Tiffanne Klein and Faye Dale Allen, and challengers Tim Bradshaw and Mark Bohannon. Early voting for Shelbyville ISD is from 7:45 to 3:45.

 

The Garrison ISD is also having an election, as Russell O’Dell, Olan Woodard, Jr., Perry Honea and Billy Cooper are on the ballot. Early voting is from 8 to 5.

Nacogdoches ISD voters are also casting ballots on a $58-million bond election.

 

Early voting for the May 27 Party Primary Run-off Election will be May 19-23. There's one run-off in San Augustine County, between Steve Bryan and David McEarchern (McKatherine). There's also several state-wide run-offs, including the Republican nominee for state railroad commission between Wayne Christian and Ryan Sitton.

 

A reminder: If you voted in a party primary, you can only vote in that same party’s runoff”.  If you did not vote in the March 4 Primary you may still vote and can vote in the runoff election for either party.
