Local Sports Round up 4/29/14; Rider Baseball Playoff Bound, Beat Rusk 7-2

Center boys' doubles tennis players Adam Reeves and Alec Lucas were knocked from the Class 3A state tennis tournament during quarterfinal play in College Station Monday. The juniors lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 to a team from Hondo. Joaquin boys’ singles player Jimmy Smith also lost in quarter-final play, losing 6-4, 6-3 to a player from Wellington in the Class A tourney.

 

The Center Roughriders are headed to the Class 3A state baseball playoffs after taking a 7-2 district playoff game win over Jasper last night in Nacogdoches. Center will represent Dist. 20-3A as the fourth playoff seed, finishing 6-6. The Riders will now meet Rusk in bi-district this week. The Best-of-three series will be played in Lufkin Friday night and Saturday at Morris Frank Park. Rusk won Dist. 19-3A, going 12-0.

 

The Joaquin Rams are the third-place team from 21-1A, and will play Kennard in a best-of-three bi-district series tentatively set to star Thursday in Woden. Game one is at 6:00 pm Thursday, with Game 2 at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if needed, immediately after Game 2.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs will open the playoffs with a home-and-home series against Hemphill. Garrison will host Hemphill at 7 p.m. on Thursday before traveling to face them at 7 p.m. on Friday. If a third game is needed, it will at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hemphill.

 

Softball Playoffs:

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons will play Zavalla in an area round playoff game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Nacogdoches High School.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs will meet Sabine in area this week, in a best-of-3 series at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. Game 1 is at 7 Thursday, with Game 2 at 6:00 Friday, and if needed, Game 3 at 2 Saturday afternoon.

 

We're coming up on the registration deadline for the the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take a Kid Fishing Tournament, on Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. Sign-ups are underway for the free event, which is for kids 3 to 15 through this Friday. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by the close of business Friday.
