Simmons Family Update

We want to get you updated on the condition of the two young girls that were injured in the one-vehicle accident in Center on April 19. Both 8-year old Breonna and 3-year old McKenna Simmons were released from University Health Hospital in Shreveport Friday. They are reported to be recovering quickly, but still have a long road ahead. However, Breonna was taken back to the hospital yesterday and is reported to have a kidney infection and dehydrated—she was kept overnight. According to information on the Facebook page, “Prayers for the Simmons Family”, the family was hoping the girls would be released so they could attend their brother, Logan’s funeral Tuesday. He passed away a week ago from severe injuries sustained in the accident. Monetary donations are still being accepted at Excelsior ISD in Aiken, and we've been told that a bank account is to be opened this week. As soon as we know more, we'll let you know. We've been directing those that have called or stopped by the radio station to make contact with Regina Danley at City Blends Smoothie Cafe and Tantalizing Tans on Tenaha Street. Ms. Danley is also responsible for setting up the gofundme page on the Internet, which has risen close to $18,000 in the past week. As for fundraisers, the Excelsior Extravagana that's being held this Saturday at Excelsior School, there's been a number of businesses and individuals that have donated goods and services for a raffle, plus chicken BBQ dinners will be served at the event from 11 to 2 Saturday for $6. The meal includes a leg quarter as prepared by the Shelby County Cookers, along with backed beans, potato salad and dessert. There’s also another raffle fundraiser taking place, and we have tickets for that one here at Center Broadcasting. All money raised from that dinner sale will go to help the Simmons family with funeral expenses, medical bills and everyday needs.
