Fundraisers to assist Simmons family underway

We told you yesterday that 6-year old Logan Simmons had passed away early Monday morning at University Health Hospital in Shreveport from head injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident Saturday on Hwy. 7 west of Center.

The two surviving children, 3-year old Makenna and 8-year old Breonna, are recovering at the same hospital. The report is the youngest child had a shattered arm socket and broken ankle, and will have more surgeries. The oldest had a broken back in two places and pelvic damage and will also need more surgery. She also has a tear in an artery near the heart and it’ll need to heal some before surgeons can go in and repair. The parents have been told they may be at the hospital for months.

The family is in need of monetary funds for the costs of Logan’s funeral, medical bills and everyday needs. If you’d like to assist, there’s a number of ways you can.

The Excelsior ISD is taking donations. You can send those to 11270 State Highway 7 West,Center, or drop off by the Excelsior school.

A gofundme account has also been set up online for the Simmons Family; and a benefit will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Curbside Market on Hwy. 7 west.

Michael and Sarah Simmons and their family were on their way home in the Aiken Community from an Easter event Saturday at New Life Church in Center when reportedly the tie rod broke on the front-end of the vehicle, causing the wreck.
