Children's Advocacy Center Receives State Bar Grant

The Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center recently received a grant in the amount of $15,360 from the Texas Bar Foundation. Advocacy Center counselor / Grant Manager / Family Advocate  Sarah Shires says the funds will be used to strengthen the Advocacy Center’s Victim Advocate program. She added the purpose of this program is to educate child victims and their non-offending caregivers about their rights as crime victims in the State of Texas. We inform the families regarding what they may experience during the investigative and legal procedures. Additionally, the Victim Advocate program provides information and resources that can assist child victims and their families in dealing with the financial and emotional costs of victimization. Ms. Shires said the Shelby County Advocacy Center greatly appreciates the Texas Bar Foundation for supporting our efforts to serve the children of Shelby County.
