Child Dies from Injuries Sustained in Saturday Wreck on Hwy. 7 West

A child has died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday afternoon on Hwy. 7 west of Center. Authorities say 6-year old Logan Simmons was a passenger in the back seat of a Ford Sport, driven by his mother, 27-year old Sara Renee Simmons, when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reason, she steered the small SUV back to the left, and the vehicle rolled and went end-over-end before coming to rest. Logan, along with his two sisters, 8-year old Breanna, and 3-year old Katelyn, were all ejected from the vehicle. Two different life-flight helicopters were called to the scene, with all three children take to University Health Hospital in Shreveport. Logan Simmons passed away Sunday evening. The two girls’ injuries are said to broken bones and lacerations. Ms. Simmons and her husband, Michael, who was a front-seat passenger, were taken by ACE EMS to Nacogdoches Memorial with minor injuries. The Simmons family lives in the Aiken Community. Family members are reporting the vehicle may have experienced a mechanical malfunction causing the accident. This was the second major weekend accident in as many weeks that occurred this month on Hwy. 7 west, in the same location, about a mile from Loop 500 at Hughes Wrecker Service.

In separate auto accidents, a Nacogdoches man and two women were among those that lost their lives over the weekend. A two vehicle wreck near the Angelina County line Sunday morning on U.S. Hwy. 59 took the lives of 25-year old Stephanie Nicole West of Nacogdoches and 46-yearold Elizabeth Ann Webb of Lufkin. West was reportedly going the wrong way when the two vehicles collided head on. Also, a Nacogdoches truck driver died Saturday night when his rig overturned after he swerved to miss a cow that had previously been hit. Fifty-year old Geoffrey Woodrow Parker, was dead at the scene of an accident Saturday night on U.S. 69 south of Huntington
