PORTIONS OF CENTER UNDER BOIL WATER NOTICE TFN; North Traffic Area Affected

We received word from Center City Manager Chad Nehring Sunday that portions of the City of Center is under a boil water notice until further notice. Nehring said due to a break of a water main at the intersection of US Hwy 96N and TX Hwy 87N causing a reduction in system pressure in this general area, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required City of Center Utilities to notify customers of the need to boil their water
prior to consumption.

Nehring said: It is NOT a City-wide notice.  "We tried to indicate the area it applied to at those that lost pressure around the leak area.  The area was able to be isolated relatively well so that most of the City shouldn't have experienced any decline in pressure or availability.  The leak was first reports around noon and was repaired late yesterday evening".

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify us that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact John Holt, City of Center Utilities Director or City Hall at 598-2941.  If you need immediate assistance, you may contact the Center Police Department at 598-2788.

Again, portions of the City of Center, primarily in the north traffic area is under a boil water notice until further notification.
