Unemployment Rate Down in Deep East Texas

As it did across Texas, the unemployment rate also fell in Deep East Texas, according to the latest information released by the Texas Workforce on Friday. Texas’ unemployment rate for March was down two-tenths to 5.5 percent. In Shelby County, that rate is 5.9 percent, down over a half-percentage point from 6.4 in February. San Augustine County’s March rate is 8.4 percent, which is down over two percent in a year, and over a percentage in the past month. Sabine County is still double-digit at 11.5 percent, but better than the 12.9 in February. Neighboring counties saw Nacogdoches’ March unemployment rate at 5.2 percent; Panola County 4.1 percent and Angelina County 5.1 percent.
