Shelby County Commissioners Meeting this Morning

When the Shelby County Commissioners' Court meets at 9:30 this morning, the governing body will be addressed by Wayne Stolz with Stolz Engineering to clarify the Hurricane Ike 2.2 Grant money that was in question regarding the paving of the Bone Hill Road. You may remember the day before the March 4 Party Primary Election, the paving of that road was the focus of a radio commercial on Center Broadcasting accusing County Judge Rick Campbell of using county road funds to top the road, CR 3046, to Bone Hill, a foundation in which the judge chairs. Judge Campbell said Mr. Stolz's address should, quote, "clarify some of the misconception that the public was led to believe, and other reported misuse of county funds".

The commissioners will hear an address from Nayeli Gonzalez concerning a situation where the Center ISD bus will not come down CR 1043 & CR 1044, in a rural subdivision, due to there being no turn-around. It's reported the only way a turn-around can be developed, is if the property owners donate land to the county for a turn-around. In order for this to possibly take place; certain steps have to occur before the road can legally be maintained by the county. Amanda Kirby from Center ISD is expected to be on hand to give comments on this situation.

Tom Trussell is expected to address the court concerning an issue he has with a neighbor who won't reportedly clean up his property. At this time, Shelby County doesn't have an ordinance to enforce such clean-up of private property, according to County Administrative Assistant Deanne Sample. Trussell wants to address the commissioners concerning the need for an ordinance officer. In other agenda items, the court will discuss and possibly take action on fund transfer concerning Homeland Security Grant; approve a proclamation designating April as Fair Housing Month; and consider transferring unencumbered unspent previous cash balances to the cash on hand/carryover account.
