Former Shelby Regional Hospital Owner's Trial Could Start May 12

The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that the federal trial for the former Shelby Regional Hospital owner could start May 12. Dr. Tariq Mahmood of Dallas County was indicted for defrauding government health insurance programs for the elderly and poor. Mahmood's former chief financial officer, Joe White of Cameron, is also under indictment on fraud charges, and according to the newspaper article, may be "entertaining settlement options" with U.S. Prosecutors. Mahmood could face more than 20 years in federal prison and $750-thousand in fines if found guilty. White faces up to seven years imprisonment. The trial is scheduled to be held in Tyler Federal Court.
