Weekend Weather Gets Stormy Again

Another weekend of severe weather swept across portions of East Texas and Western Louisiana on Sunday, as rain and hail was the most common reported weather event. Rainfall amounts were greater north of our area, as Tyler, Longview and Kilgore all had flash flooding of five inches or more. Half-inch to one-inch hail was reported Sunday morning from near Chireno, across Toledo Bend to near Florien in Sabine Parish. Another heavy band of embedded storms came through early afternoon, as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service around 1:15 for west central San Augustine County and southeastern Nacogdoches County as a severe thunderstorm was detected near Diboll moving northeast with possible high winds and quarter-size hail. There was no storm damage reported during this warning. There’s more rain this afternoon and tonight, with much better weather Tuesday through Friday, before a chance of rain returns for the weekend.

No major weather related incidents reported, and Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative’s Brittany Johnson tells us the coop has experienced a few small scattered outages. These varied weather related outages affected approximately 10-20 members per occurrence.
