Shelby County Relay for Life Set For Saturday; Proclamation Signed

The 9th annual Relay for Life will be held Saturday at the Shelby County Expo Center. Yesterday, Shelby County Judge Rick Campbell proclaimed Saturday as “Cancer Survivor’s Day”. He recognized the efforts of the hundreds of county citizens that come together each year to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society, and the people that continually give in Shelby County

Shirley Brittain of the Beach Grove Community near Dreka is a 3-time cancer survivor. She knows first-hand the importance of the Relay for Life.

She says the Relay for Life helps to put a face on cancer awareness.

Ms. Brittain also serves the American Cancer Society state legislative district, and is an ambassador for Hero of Hope. She's also a two-time survivor of the Bermuda Triangle!

Organizers say there are over 300 participants taking part in the Relay for Life on 17 teams.

There are games, food, garage sales, raffles, BINGO and much more fundraising events. Activities start at 10 tomorrow morning and will go till 10 Saturday night at the Shelby County Expo Center, the 9th annual Shelby County Relay for Life.
