Local Sports Round up 4/2/14

Baseball Tuesday:

 

The Center Roughriders got back into the win column last night in Pollock, as they take a 3-0 win over Central. The Riders improve to 2-4 in the District 20-3A standings, tied with Central for fifth. Center will be home to play Hudson Friday night to start the second go-round of district.
 

In District 21-1A, the Joaquin Rams made it seven wins in-a-row with a 17-1 decision over Mt. Enterprise in two innings last night. Joaquin improves to 7-2, tied with Cushing in second place. Cushing took a 12-2 win over Timpson, dropping the Bears to 5-4. Joaquin is home to play district front-runner and No. 1 ranked Douglass Friday evening.

 

Douglass beat Martinsville 19-0 last night.

 

The Tenaha Tigers notch their first win of the season last night, with a 6-3 win over the Shelbyville Dragons. Tenaha is now 1-7, while Shelbyville is 2-6. The Tigers are scheduled to be at Martinsville Saturday. The Dragons have a bye Friday.

 

San Augustine and Garrison were both idle last night. The Wolves go to Burkeville Friday, while the Bulldogs are home to play district leading Central Heights Thursday.

 

Softball:

 

Different game, unfortunately, the same result for the Center Lady Riders last night, as they leave Pollock with an 8-2 loss to Central. The Lady Riders are 0-8 and are home to play district-leading and state-ranked Hudson Friday.

 

The state’s No. 1 Class A team, Beckville, showed no mercy, beating Timpson, 11-0. The loss drops the Lady Bears to 4-3. Timpson will host Gary at 6 tonight, a make up from Friday’s postponement. Timpson goes to Martinsville Friday.

The Joaquin Lady Rams went ahead and played their game with Gary last night, taking a 23-4 win. Joaquin improves to 5-3, and are scheduled to host Chireno Friday.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are scheduled to be at Chireno Thursday.

 

The District 20-3A golf tournament will be played today and Thursday, weather permitting at Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll.

 

Track & Field meets scheduled Thursday: Garrison High School will be hosting the Horace Francis Relays, with Garrison, Center and San Augustine taking part; Timpson teams will be at the meet in New Summerfield; and the district 21-1A, Jr. High Meet will be held in Timpson today.

 

Shelbyville tricksters will be taking part in the Spring Hill Meet on Saturday.

 

Sign-ups are underway for the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take A Kid Fishing Tournament, to be held, Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. The free event is for kids 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by May 3.
