Joaquin Preparing for Centennial Celebration June 13 & 14

The City of Joaquin is making plans for their centennial celebration to be held starting Friday, June 13 thru Saturday, June 14. Events including a gospel singing that Friday night at Joaquin High School featuring Joaquin native Trey Wilson, East Texas gospel group, The Stanley’s and other local singers. There’s no entry charge, but donations are welcome. Saturday, June 14, events include a parade at 10 a.m., vendor booths, a 42 tournament, horseshoes, washer toss, a Jaws of Life demonstration by the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Dept. and BBQ plates sold by the fire department. Prizes will be given for the oldest & youngest Joaquin citizen, longest married couple, person who traveled the greatest distance to attend, oldest Joaquin cheerleader, homecoming queen and football player, and a number of other recognitions throughout the day. Plus, there’ll be games and activities for all ages, and live music throughout the day. The day will be capped off with a concert at 7 at the Logansport River Front featuring the band Windstream from Shreveport, in addition to fireworks at 9 p.m. Centennial cookbooks, t-shirts and caps will be on sale at Joaquin City Office and at the celebration. All proceeds will be used for improvements to the city park and future events. Everyone is welcome to Joaquin to mark their 100 anniversary June 13 & 14.
