Local Sports Round up 3/26/14; Rider Soccer Falls in Playoffs

The Center Roughrider soccer team came up short in their bi-district playoff game in Crockett last night, losing in overtime to Bryan Rudder, 3-1. Bryan Rudder gets the Waco/Lampasas winner in the second round.

 

Baseball last night:

 

The Center Roughriders lose to Jasper, 5-2, dropping the Riders to 1-3 in the District 20-3A race. Jasper improves to 2-4. The Rider JV came away with a 13-3 win over Jasper. Center will hosts one of the district front-runners, Carthage Friday night.

 

The Joaquin Rams shut-out the Timpson Bears, 7-0, to give Joaquin a 5-2 Dist. 21-1A record, while Timpson falls to 5-3. Meanwhile, Cushing beats Shelbyville, 10-7, dropping the Dragons to 2-5, and Tenaha comes up short against Mt. Enterprise, 8-7 in 8 innings, as the Tigers go to 0-6.

 

Friday’s games, Chireno at Joaquin; Tenaha at Douglass; and Mt. Enterprise at Shelbyville.

 

Saturday’s action, Joaquin at Cushing, Shelbyville at Douglass, and Chireno at Timpson.

 

In District 23-1A, Colmesneil beats the San Augustine Wolves, 19-1, as S.A. goes to 1-4; West Sabine over Broaddus, 15-2, making West Sabine 4-1, and Broaddus 3-2. Also, Zavalla beat Brookeland, 15-2. Friday’s games include Chester at San Augustine.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs beat Groveton, 4-2 last night.

 

 

Softball:

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons take a 3-2 win over the Joaquin Lady Rams, improving Shelbyville to 5-2, and Joaquin goes to 4-3. Timpson had a bye.

 

Friday, Joaquin has a bye, Shelbyville at Beckville, and Gary at Timpson.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs are 7-0 after a 5-0 win over Groveton. Garrison will go to Elkhart Friday.

 

Center High School will be hosting the UIL District Tennis Tournament today and Thursday.

 

Tomorrow, Center High School is hosting its annual JV & Varsity Track Meet—The Rider Relays, starting at 4 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium.

 

San Augustine will be hosting the S.A. Alumni Relays tomorrow as a number of area teams will be taking part, including Tenaha. Timpson tracksters go to Huntington; and Garrison at the West Rusk Relays.
