Local Sports Round up 3/14/14; Lady Riders Fall, Riders Host Diboll Tonight

Joaquin’s Chloe Brown is participating in the State Power Lifting Meet today in Corpus Christi. She’s currently ranked 2nd in the state.

 

Baseball:

 

The state’s top-ranked 1A team, the Douglass Indians took a 16-0 win over the Timpson Bears yesterday in a ten-rule shortened game in Timpson. Douglass improves to 4-0, while the Bears fall to 2-2. Timpson will be home to play 0-2 Tenaha Tuesday.

 

Today's action: The Center Roughriders will host No. 5 state-ranked Diboll, starting with JV at 4:30. This is Diboll's district opener. Central, Carthage and Hudson are 1-0, while Huntington and Jasper join Center at 0-1. Diboll is 11-2 on the season, while the Riders have an overall record of 9-7.

 

Other games: Tenaha at Martinsville; Crockett will be at Garrison; and No. 10 state-ranked West Sabine at San Augustine.

 

Softball:

The Center Lady Riders fall to 0-3 in district play after a 6-3 loss at Hudson last night. The Lady Riders are open Tuesday, and will be home to play Diboll a week from today.

 

In college basketball: The SFA Lumberjacks will take on rival Northwestern State at 5 this afternoon in the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Semi-Finals at the Ferrell Center in Katy. The winner advances to the conference tournament final Saturday night, and a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
