Shelby County Judge's Race: Provisional Ballot Verification Continues

As you probably know by now, the Republican Party Primary Election for Shelby County Judge ended in a one-vote presumptive victory for challenger Allison Harbison over Rick Campbell Tuesday night, and with five provisional ballots to be certified, the official outcome remains in question.

To give you an idea where things stand at this time, Center Broadcasting spoke with County Clerk Harbison yesterday, who’s also the county election administrator, and she said the 10 provisional ballot individuals from Tuesday’s voting—five from each political party that were allowed to vote, despite not having their ID, had until this next Monday to go to Voter Registrar Debora Riley’s office and be certified.

Ms. Harbison said each of the provisional voters was instructed by the precinct voting judge where they were allowed to vote, to present their ID in proper time to Ms. Riley’s office.

She added the county’s ballot board, which is made up of selected Democratic and Republican voters that meet after each election, will likely gather Tuesday, at which time the process of having a manual recount of the county judges’ race would in all likelihood begin.

Ms. Harbison said it’s up to Republican Party Chairperson Leigh Porterfield to assemble a group to conduct a recount.
