Local Sports Round up 3/6/14

District 21-1A baseball score from Tuesday, the Timpson Bears defeat the Chireno Owls, 20-3 in the district opener. The win gives the Bears a 5-2 season record. Yesterday, Cushing takes a 6-4 win over the Joaquin Rams, dropping the Rams to 6-3 on the season.

 

Baseball scheduled today: the Center Roughriders start play in the Hallsville Builders Tournament through Saturday. Center’s first game is at 7 tonight; they play again at 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. Friday; and at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs begin play in the Kirbyville Tournament today.

 

Friday: the San Augustine Wolves go to Beckville in non-district.

 

In a district game Friday, the Joaquin Rams host Mt Enterprise; and the Timpson Bears and Shelbyville Dragons have byes.

 

In Softball:

District game earlier this week, Beckville over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons, 14-2.

The Lady Riders have their second district game Friday at home against Central; the Timpson Lady Bears go to Beckville; Gary at the Joaquin Lady Rams; the Chireno Lady Owls at the Shelbyville Lady Dragons and the Garrison Lady Bulldogs at Central Heights.

 

Track & Field (including boys and girls): today, Tenaha and San Augustine are at the Shelbyville meet; Timpson goes to Beckville; and Garrison heads to Troup.

 

Friday track: the Center Roughriders and Lady Riders will be in Newton.

 

In men’s college basketball last night from Tyler, the Panola Ponies lost a 73-71 first-round Region 14 N-J-C-A-A game to Kilgore College. The setback ends Panola’s season.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks have a Southland Conference game at 8 tonight at the Johnson Coliseum. The Jacks put their 24-game win streak on the line against Oral Roberts.

 

The boys’ state UIL basketball tournament gets underway this morning in Austin. First two semi-final games are the Class 1A, Div. I, featuring Muenster taking on Grapeland and Mumford against Smyer; that’s followed by the 3A semis, Dallas Madison vs. San Antonio Houston; then 4A semis, Beaumont Central taking on Dallas Kimball; and Schertz Clements vs. Amarillo. Friday’s semis include Class 2A, Class 1A, Div. II, and 5A.
